Frequently Asked Questions

We know you have questions before trusting someone with your bird. Below you'll find detailed answers to the things Vaughan bird owners ask us most often.

We serve all of Vaughan including Woodbridge, Kleinburg, Maple, Concord, Vellore, Nashville, and the Vaughan side of Thornhill. We're based in Woodbridge, which makes us central to most Vaughan neighbourhoods. We can also accommodate bird owners from nearby areas like Bolton and King City on a case-by-case basis.
Before the first stay, we schedule a free intake consultation — either in person at our Woodbridge home or over video call. We'll ask about your bird's diet, sleep routine, favourite toys, any behavioural quirks, and medical history. We recommend bringing a familiar toy or perch from home to help your bird feel comfortable. We also suggest a short trial visit of a few hours before committing to a longer booking.
Absolutely. We follow your bird's exact dietary requirements — whether that's a specific pellet brand, fresh chop recipe, seed mix, or supplements. You're welcome to bring your own food, or we can source it ourselves if you provide the details. We track food intake daily and will notify you immediately if your bird's appetite changes.
Our Woodbridge bird room is fully bird-proofed: no exposed wires, non-toxic plants only, stainless steel hardware, and double-door entry to prevent flyaways. We use HEPA air purification to keep the air clean, and the room is temperature-controlled year-round. We never use Teflon cookware, scented candles, or aerosol sprays anywhere in our home. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed in every room.
Yes, daily photo and video updates are included with every booking at no extra charge. We send these via email or text — whichever you prefer. For extended stays, we also provide weekly written health summaries covering weight, appetite, behaviour, and activity levels. Video calls with your bird can be arranged on request.
We monitor every bird closely for signs of illness including changes in droppings, appetite, energy, or feather condition. If we notice anything concerning, we contact you immediately and consult with our partner avian veterinarian in the Vaughan area. In an emergency, we will transport your bird to the vet without delay and keep you informed every step of the way. Emergency vet costs are the owner's responsibility, but we handle all logistics.
Yes, we have experience caring for birds with plucking behaviours, dietary sensitivities, anxiety, and birds on medication schedules. During the intake process, we'll discuss your bird's specific needs in detail and create a customized care plan. If medication needs to be administered, we'll practice the routine with you beforehand to ensure accuracy and minimize stress for your bird.
We recommend booking at least one to two weeks in advance, especially during peak travel seasons like summer and the December holidays. However, we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests when space is available. If you know your travel dates, booking early guarantees your spot and gives us time to schedule a proper intake.
We care for the vast majority of companion bird species — from budgies and finches to macaws and cockatoos. We currently don't board poultry, waterfowl, or wild birds. If you have a less common species, just reach out and we'll let you know if we can accommodate them. We've successfully cared for everything from tiny parrotlets to full-size hyacinth macaws.
We understand plans change. Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the scheduled drop-off receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24-48 hours receive a 50% refund. Same-day cancellations are non-refundable, as we reserve the space exclusively for your bird and turn away other bookings. We're always flexible with date changes when possible.

Grooming Questions

We offer nail trimming ($28), wing clipping ($38), beak conditioning ($48), feather and plumage care ($55), and a full grooming package that includes all four services for $120. Each session includes a post-grooming health report. You can book individual services or combine them during a single visit.
Most companion birds need nail trims every four to eight weeks, depending on species, activity level, and perch types. Smaller birds like budgies and cockatiels tend to need more frequent trims, while larger parrots with access to concrete or rough-textured perches may go longer between sessions. We can advise on a schedule during your first visit.
Yes, when performed by an experienced groomer using proper technique, wing clipping is painless and safe. We only trim the primary flight feathers — no blood feathers or pin feathers are ever cut. The feathers grow back naturally during the next moult cycle. We always check feather health before clipping and customize the clip level to your preference.
Beak conditioning involves assessing your bird's beak health, carefully shaping any overgrowth using a low-speed Dremel, smoothing rough edges, and applying a conditioning oil to maintain keratin quality. Most birds that eat a balanced diet and have access to cuttlebone or mineral blocks maintain their beaks naturally, but some species — particularly cockatoos and macaws — may develop overgrowth or asymmetry that benefits from professional attention.
A single service like nail trimming typically takes 15 to 20 minutes including settling time. The full grooming package takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your bird's temperament and needs. We never rush a grooming session — your bird's comfort sets the pace.
Absolutely — this is one of the most popular options among our Vaughan clients. If your bird is already staying with us for boarding, we can schedule grooming during the visit at a convenient time. Many owners find this saves a separate trip and means their bird comes home fully refreshed.
Yes, we groom birds ranging from tiny finches and budgies to large macaws and cockatoos. Our groomers adjust their tools, technique, and handling approach based on the species and size of your bird. If your bird has never been professionally groomed before, we take extra time during the first visit to build trust.
Nervousness is completely normal, especially for first-time grooming clients. Our groomers are trained in low-stress handling techniques and we allow extra settling time for anxious birds. We work in a calm, dimly lit environment and take breaks if needed. You are also welcome to stay in the room during the session, as many birds are calmer with their owner present.
The full grooming package is $120 per bird and includes nail trimming, wing clipping, beak conditioning, and feather and plumage care. Booked individually, these four services would total $169, so the package saves you $49. A post-grooming health report is included at no extra charge.
Yes, we require appointments for all grooming services so we can dedicate the appropriate time and attention to your bird. You can book by filling out our contact form. We typically have availability within a few days and can accommodate morning or afternoon time slots.
